About ESOP 2008

The IOTA-ES and the observatory Sternwarte Drebach cordially invites you to the XXVII. European Symposium on Occultation Projects (ESOP) from August 29 to 31, 2008.

The conference begins on Friday, August 29, 2008, in the small village of Drebach in the vicinity of Chemnitz in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge). All participants will be accomodated in a typical country hotel. In the evening you will have the opportunity to visit the observatory with its telescopes and the Zeiss - planetarium in an 11m-dome.

The ESOP 2008 is held on Saturday and Sunday in the Zeiss - planetarium. The planetarium built by Carl Zeiss Jena is equipped with all multimedia facilities. IOTA-ES is responsible for the scientific conference program. We will provide the catering for lunches and coffee breaks between the conference sessions as well as a smooth operational support.

For accompanying persons not willing to participate in the conference sessions in the planetarium we as well offer a small partner program on Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, September 1st, 2008, we offer a bus trip to Dresden, the capital of Sachsen. We will organize a visit to the Lohrmann observatory of the Technical University Dresden. In the afternoon we will visit the Frauenkirche and the Green Vault.

On Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008, we plan to show you the old silver city Annaberg-Buchholz. We will visit the Sankt Annenkirche with its historically valuable wood altar and the Adam-Ries-Museum.

Thereafter take the opportunity and explore the beauty of the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) on your own if you wish.
